"Uk..." is equivalent to "Um..." or "Ugh...", a sound with a hint of helplessness. A sweetfish is held in the mouth .
Japanese text on the back: 「のみこみません」
It is the Japanese equivalent of "I can't swallow it".
Yukio plays a "cormorant," which is a traditional fishing method in the Nagara River called " pelican fishing."
Fishermen tie a straw rope around the cormorant's neck, and then light a fire on their small boat at night to attract fish to swim near the surface. The cormorant will then dive into the water to catch the fish, but because of the rope around its neck, it cannot swallow the food and is forced to spit it out!
So YUKIO made a "uh..." sound and helplessly said, "I can't swallow it."
