"Hokkaido Beer" is the origin and symbol of Japanese beer culture. Hokkaido has the highest barley production in Japan, and its water is soft and clear. There are also hop cultivation centers in Kamifurano and Kitami, so many large Japanese breweries (Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo, Suntory) have breweries in Hokkaido. The Sapporo Odori Park Beer Festival is held every summer and is Japan's largest outdoor beer event.
