From Japan's 500-year-old wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionery) shop "Toraya" comes their signature Ogura Yokan—Yoru no Ume.
The cut red beans resemble plum blossoms blooming in the night sky, hence the name "Yoru no Ume" (Plum Blossom in the Night). It is one of the most iconic and longest-standing flavors from this historic shop, beloved since its debut in 1819 (Bunsei 2).
Yokan is one of the most representative types of traditional Japanese wagashi, made by long-term kneading of red beans, sugar, and agar. It has a delicate texture that melts in your mouth, and due to its high sugar content, it has an extremely long shelf life, making it a classic choice for both gifting and personal enjoyment.
